Some Election Validation and Motivation: The Kamala Club - Issue Five
If you’re tuned in to this election cycle, I’m sure you’re flooded with emotions. I’m here to normalize those feelings, and advise on how we can use them to help Kamala win.
Hi Kamala Club!!!
The last issue I sent out was a little serious, so you can consider this one a wellness break and pep talk. As you can tell from the subject, I think we all need a little validation and motivation as we barrel closer to November 5th. I promise, this will end on a lighter note!
Almost everyone I’ve talked to recently about the election has been a little bit spooked, surprised and shook that it’s coming so soon. Many people, especially Gen Z, are trying to put the election stress out of their life — and I get it.
After Joe Biden’s momentous, unprecedented and selfless decision to drop out of the race and endorse Kamala Harris, the excitement was palpable. I was glued to my phone, addicted to Twitter, TikTok Kamala content and therapeutic anti-Trump content. My news feeds and For You Page were dominated by coconut tree memes and Kamala dancing. Brat summer was still in full swing and everyone was calling Trump and Vance weirdos (which they still are, don’t get it twisted). It was funny and new and silly and for the first time in a very long time, politics actually felt fun.
But then, after the high of the DNC, reality settled in. It became clear what we’re up against in this election.
After the horrors of the deaths of 6 Israeli hostages and another mass shooting, it’s become obvious that this is not all fun and games. While Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are campaigning around joy and freedom, Trump and Vance are feeding into and campaigning on issues that divide us, weaken us, and frighten us.
For example, I nearly vomited when JD Vance said school shootings are just “a fact of life.”
Many of us have safe spaces from Trumpers (like the Kamala Club), but many families have been divided since the 2016 election. It’s an unfortunate American reality that almost everyone has family or community members that don’t align with the way we view the world and our ideal future. And it. freaking. sucks.
However, we have 58 days. We need to keep the good vibes going until then!!!! This is exciting. Because when you think about it this way - sustained enthusiasm means sustained passion, which means more awareness around the election, which means more votes for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz and democrats up and down the ballot, which means a victory. And imagine how good that will feel.
We have before us a beautiful, smart, qualified, talented, funny, joyful, real, decent, normal woman who is going to lead our country so that we can leave the past behind us and prove 2016 was a fluke by rebuking Trump for the second time in a row.
We can make this fun. We can watch the presidential debate this Tuesday (9/10) and laugh at the bumbling weirdo Trump really is. My plan, for instance, is that I’m flying out to DC to go to watch the debate live at a bar with “coconut tree shots” with my dad and sister as we participate in a themed drinking game.
We can tell our neighbor “I’m so excited to vote!!!!” We can name our Fantasy Football team “The Blue Waves” or “The Mankato West Scarlets” (Tim Walz’ high school football team). We can post an Instagram story of a cute picture and plop “iwillvote.com” on it so that if even one person clicks it, we can achieve one more vote in a swing state.
If we’re feeling really crazy, we can even volunteer and go to a college campus and register students to vote in a swing state (more on that in another addition). We can watch compilations of Kamala slaying and take a deep breath and say “she’s working for us, she's got us, we’re going to be okay."
We can realize we’re on the brink of something amazing. New, fresh vibes in our country. We can be glass half full. We can say we’re almost there. We can say in a few more weeks, ”I will VOTE and I will remind others to vote”, and not have to think about if we could have done more to save the future of our democracy.
Hopefully, after our landslide, we can say “WE DID IT!!!!” and we can give each other hugs and live our lives as we want to live them — with no concerns of an autocratic government signing laws that restrict our freedoms. This election is a fight to live our damn lives the way we want to. Let’s vote against the ticket that wants to strip our rights away from us.
So what do you say??? Respond to me and let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you get involved. I have a few tricks up my sleeve and some badass contacts, and the more the freaking merrier.
We can DO this. We can BLUE this. LET’S GO!
How to get involved:
Times and channels for the debate! (Idea: have a watch party so you can see how unhinged and demented Trump is, it’ll be fun!)
Want some unique ideas on how to beat Trump and elect Kamala? Email me back, we’ll talk.
Tweet of the day: Kamala being Kamala, so personable, we love her.
TikTok of the day: Obama spitting facts. “If you don’t want your grandparents to pick your clothes and music, don’t let them pick the country you live in.” Also love this podcast.
If you got to the bottom of today's issue, feel free to reply with 1 person to add to The Kamala Club, who you feel needs some Kamala hype right to their inbox.
